Do you love being in the Ocean and want to share it with others? Do you work in the Outdoor Industry and need to expand your qualifications? If you want the confidence to supervise others in the water and know what to do in case the unexpected happen then the PADI Snorkel Guide course could be for you!

This 2 Day Practical course (+ Online learning) gives you the theory, skills, experience and qualifications to safely take small groups snorkelling in an open water environment.

The course is well suited to teachers and outdoor guides with some snorkelling and ocean experience, who are able to meet the minimum stamina, fitness and rescue requirements that you must pass in order to complete the course (see the full list of requirements below). If you are unsure or unable to meet these requirements some extra training days can easily be arrange 3-4 weeks in advance of the course to assist you in reaching these requirements, see our additional coaching and training days option.

If you wish to extend your training beyond the minimum standard we also offer Freediver training and Surf Survival/Breathwork Coaching as additional course options to support you on your Ocean Journey.

All PADI Snorkel Guide Courses require a minimum of 2 students to run with a maximum of 8 students per course. All online theory and pre-course forms must be completed prior to attending the 2 Day practical sessions.

Course Requirements and Prerequisites

The course consists of 2 Days practical training and assessment + online theory. You will need meet the below time, equipment, pre-course qualifications, and physical requirements to participate in the course. You will also need to sign the PADI Medical (provided on the link below) or have a physician sign off on the Medical saying you are fit to dive. PADI Medical Questionnaire.

Time and Equipment

  • Two Days Course

  • Quality Mask, Snorkel, Fins

  • Full length, Wetsuit preferability 3mm+, Booties, Wetsuit hood

  • Towel

  • Dive Flag (can be borrowed for the day)

  • Waterproof Whistle

  • Emergency communication device. (Phone/In Reach/PLB)

  • Emergency flotation device (Provided on the day)

Pre-Course Qualifications

Current (in the last two years):

  • HLTAID009 Provide CPR

  • HLTAID011 Provide First Aid

  • An Australian Unique Student Identifier (USI)

Evidence of currency will need to be provided to your trainer.

If you do not have these qualifications you can join a Beyond Wilderness First Aid Course either before or after the Snorkel Guide course to complete your training

Physical Requirements

The ability to:

  • Equalise your ears

  • Dive to a depth of 5m on a single breath.

  • Tread water with no flotation aid for 15 minutes

  • Swim 800m non-stop using a mask, fins and snorkel in 15 minutes or less

  • Swim 25m Horizontally underwater on a single breath, in water too deep to stand up in.
