Ian Riley has retained a close association with the Tasmanian wilderness from the days when he was carried in his parents’ backpack.  The call and the fascination has inevitably forged his own trekking activities, and it is a natural consequence of this to create a photographic record of  what he has seen and experienced, one to be shared with others.

In order to successfully capture the landscape and close detail, Ian uses an Ebony 4x5 large format view camera and a 35mm. Contax RX.

"The majority of my photographs are of the natural landscapes which constantly inspire me on my many outdoor pursuits. They are generally categorised with an emphasis on protected and unprotected wilderness areas. I have a passion for education and capturing what I call cultural wilderness, historic relics which have been progressively engulfed by nature. "

Ian has a Bachelor of Science (Botany Major, Zoology and Geography & Environmental Studies Minor) from the University of Tasmania, and a Diploma of Education from Latrobe Universtiy, Bendigo. When he is not out photographing he works as an Environmental Consultant in Hobart, Tasmania.
