Beyond wilderness is owed and operated by Ian Riley, a tasmanian landscape photographer who has been venturing into the tasmanian wilderness his entire life, building an affinity with it's wild lands and a passion to conserve it unique natural heritage, one which is often under threat from a variety of processes. Ian has a science degree from the university of tasmania with a major in botany and a minor in zoology and geography & environmental studies. he also has a graduate diploma in education from La Trobe University, bendigo.

The sole purpose of Beyond Wilderness is to promote Tasmania' s wild places. For through photography one can engulf the viewer, enabling them to feel as if they are standing in that exact location, able to walk through the forest, touch the trees or bend and sip from the cool running water.  Such photos represent the essence of a location, expressing feeling and thus transmitting an understanding as to why these places are precious, important and of unique value.

 It is the aim of Beyond Wilderness to achieve this and in addition fuel this understanding with the strength of knowledge of these places.  By this we hope to allow you, the viewer, to not only appreciate these places for their aesthetic beauty and the feelings they create, but also gain an understanding of their importance, and a knowledge of why their unique value.
